Notes from moderation Friday 10th February.

Blogs showed:

  • Kathleen Canoy (video)
  • Louise Gilmore (print)
These 2 blogs were deemed as exemplar, both of them achieving high Level 4 marks. However, the main suggestions for ALL blogs are:

  • The theme of ALL blogs must be changed to BASIC - OCR prefers this template because they can see the name of the posts on one side and the work in the other.  They find it easier to navigate.
  • ALL work MUST be in one single blog... OCR doesn't accept multiple blogs per student (note especially for Morgan and Morgan).
  • OCR expects all blogs to be as creative as possible, not just a collection of 'written' posts. It's the expectation that some of the entries are made using software like emaze, prezi or another PowerPoint based programme.
  • The use of images (photos of work) is encouraged. This came be done for sketches, plans, storyboards, forms, etc.
  • OCR also encourages forms of social media to gather evidence of feedback, not just a series of quotes from audiences.  They mentioned that they liked it when centres made videos of when feedback is taking place, literally going round the classroom with a camera asking students to provide feedback - not to worry about the quality of the camera work as long as you can see and hear the person giving feedback.
  • OCR also encourages the use of Vlogs and audio files as posts.
  • OCR expects, that the evaluation questions are answered in a range of ways, not just in written form. They hinted at the fact that they prefer every question to have a different format... for example,

Q1 - written.
Q2 - a Vlog.
Q3 - an emaze or press presentation.
Q4 - an audio file (like a podcast).

etc... These formats may be used more than once.  They even mentioned that some centres created a kind of 'interview TV show' as a format for creating posts!

  • OCR also hinted repeatedly that ALL blogs must be in order... it doesn't matter if it is created at the end of the coursework, but it must be in order.

See you all when we come back and we can talk about these in more detail... any questions please give us a shout!
